Testimonials
It gave me a wonderful foundation I can use as a basis for exploring more French opportunities in health care.
The activities organized by the Réseau Santé Nouvelle-Écosse are excellent ways of listening, sharing, and speaking in French. It’s the perfect setting for practising and being exposed to the French language to feel more comfortable when interacting with patients or other health professionals in French.
The French in Physiotherapy Group was created in 2021 for physiotherapy students who wanted to speak French. It’s great, all the students are invited to participate, regardless of their level of French! The activities are great and it’s a wonderful opportunity to speak French during my studies! I am very pleased, and I will feel more comfortable speaking French in future. I hope that the group will continue and that every student who participates will feel more at ease and prepared to serve Francophone communities thanks to this group.
I really liked the presentation! I got a lot of information from it, and I enjoyed the practical exercises and the comparisons between different interpretation options.
There were several social events where we practised our French and really had a lot of fun. We also learned how to take the medical history of a complex patient in French, which is a very rare opportunity at Dalhousie and in Halifax. Thanks to Franco-Santé and the French in Medicine Group, I am a lot more confident with Francophone patients and I was able to tackle my shortcomings in French in medical situations.
I learned a lot about the importance of offering linguistically appropriate services.
The Franco-Doc events are making me much more confident speaking in French, which means I can offer better medical care.
Franco-Doc has also taught me about the demand for French-speaking doctors in Nova Scotia, and the need to learn more about cultural diversity in the province.
Franco-Doc has been such a hit with medical students that Health Canada has decided to support the project, making it possible to reach students on many other medical and health care courses.
