Component 1
Developing and strengthening relationships and areas of cooperation between the settlement and health sectors.
Date
2021-2025
Summary of activity
Réseau Santé is working closely with the RIFÎPE to help the organization develop partnerships with key people in the health system. The goal is to identify barriers to accessing health services and including newcomers in employment opportunities in the health field. The aim of this collaboration is to move towards proposing solutions to barriers that stand in the way of newcomers’ integration and civic engagement. The FIN may serve as a gateway for immigrants in order to document the barriers they face. For its part, Réseau Santé may help settlement professionals improve their grasp of the insular health system and propose solutions and organizational changes aimed at reducing such barriers.
Desired outcomes
Settlement professionals are able to identify and mobilize the appropriate partners and resources in order to help their clients integrate. These partnerships are aimed at improving understanding of the challenges associated with job requirements within health professions on PEI.
Developments to date
- Presentation delivered to PEI’s Legislative Standing Committee to inform MLAs about the various barriers to recruiting and retaining professional francophone nursing staff
- Meetings organized between Health PEI and the College of Nurses of PEI
- Analysis reports on the overview of changes made in Ontario to modernize the process by which the College of Nurses of Ontario assesses candidates.
